My Parents are Dummies

Addison has been saying the sound "puh" for days!  Literally, she will up and say it and be very animated and exuberant about it. Over and over again, "puh, puh, puh".

And we're all scratching our heads.  We repeatedly tried to guess, "passie?  puzzle? paper?"  And nothing.  Even her grandparents didn't have a clue.

Usually both girls get the beginning sound of words, and if they don't say the entire word, they say that beginning sound.  So, I was pretty sure it began with a "p".  I'm usually pretty good at this.  But we were all stumped!

And then  finally, I got that it meant, "diaPER".  PER=Puh!  I asked, "diaper"?
Addison proudly marched me into her room and pointed to the diapers.  Eureka!

Apparently her sister knew what we meant, because later I held a few objects in my hand and asked Lauren, "Can you bring me the PUH?" and sure enough, she brought me the diaper.

Haha!  They must think we are total dummies!  :)  SO FUNNY!  Ok, maybe you had to be there...

HAHA I had a good laugh at that. It's probably so true...especially with twins where they understand each other and then these grown ups just don't get it.

I've heard of cases where twins create their own special language that no one else understands. That could be fun... ;)

Heh. It is such a fun guessing game until they start throwing fits because you don't understand what they want! Even at 3, ours will still translate for each other. If we can't understand what one is saying, we'll ask the other and they are almost always able to tell us with a slightly different pronunciation so that we can understand.

I totally understand that. Hard to believe, but only in the last month did I realize that Anna calls Sam "B" for his name. Maybe because I called him my little bean as a baby? I was always frustrated that I couldn't get her to say his name when her verbal vocab has been so advanced. Duh, she's been saying her own name for him all along. I wonder for how long I've totally missed it and what she tried to say about him that I was clueless about!

Miles will say something to me and I have no clue what word he is saying. I will ask this? this? this? and he looks at me like I'm crazy and says, "NO MAMA!" and when I finally figure it out, he's like TADA!

Michelle and Kathleen, Yep, I'm quite sure they have their own language and think we're just total dorks for not understanding!

Denise, it's kind of nice to have one to translate for the other. If you just had one, there would be none of that! :)

Katie, it's so funny how they interpret things differently. Addison calls our dog "Beh" for Beckley, and Lauren calls him "gee" for doggie!

Our Ped asked if they called one another by their own name, because his twins did at this age.

Maybe it's the teacher in me, but I am LOVING the language development! And since our sitter is teaching them sign language and I finally started recording the Signing Time, I feel like we're on track! Like we made HUGE leaps in the past few months.

Kim! Haa! I know! He's like, "ugh, finally!" right?
