Transfer: Best 1 out of 4

We transferred two high grade blasts today. We had originally signed up to transfer three, but I guess since they made it to blast and were looking so good, the R.E. preferred to transfer two. We already have two that are being cryopreserved and a few more that the embryologist said were early blast stage, and they were keeping an eye on them to see if they were good enough quality to freeze. So, I feel like that was a pretty productive batch, for me!

They did NOT do Assisted Hatching. They said they only do those on 3 day transfers, something about not having as much space because there are more cells. I was a bit disappointed. I thought it was definitely possible to do them on blasts. Any input would be welcomed.

This was definitely the easiest transfer out of the four transfers we've done! Not that it was enjoyable...

I heart valium. I was nauseous before it (nerves), but then by the time I was on the table I was almost falling asleep and just really didn't care about much.

I drank at least 24 ounces of water about an hour before the transfer. Still, it wasn't quite enough. So I had to drink a few more cups of water while on the table. Then the RE inserted the GIGNORMOUS car jack crank of a speculum into my vajayjay (My husband joked that it's probably like a cave in there, and imagined the R.E. with a minor's cap on! Yea, we have a sick sense of humor... anyway). The added pressure of the speculum and the ultrasound moving around were just hard on the ole' bladder.

The transfer itself was really, REALLY quick and smooth. I have a tilted uterus so I think that's why normally they have a hard time getting the catheter in and it takes many many tries. This time, boom, it was over with!

After that I requested the OTHER catheter, the drain. I have decided that it's probably pretty routine for them to do that, and it made my 20 minute wait MUCH more bearable. I lost my shame way back when.

Oh the LOVENOX saga continues! I called the pharmacy on Saturday and had them doublecheck the actual script. Yes, it was supposed to be once weekly. Groovy. Then I called the Hematologist on Satuday and left a message. Is it really once weekly, or is that a mistake? Nurse calls yesterday, says my CHART says once weekly, but she will check with the doctor today. She calls back today, NO, it's supposed to be once DAILY. Oops! So I took some before the transfer this morning. Damn..... so disappointed about that. I knew it was too good to be true. Thanks gwinne, for encouraging me to check on it. I'm not sure I would have otherwise.

Enjoying bedrest so far! I have a smidge of hope at this point. I have no doubt that by this time next week, I'll have fun the gammet of emotions and will be going a bit batty though.

Glad the transfer went swimmingly! (Though sorry to hear about the daily instead of weekly injections... although at this point, I know you'll do whatever it takes... )

For what it is worth, I think the medical community believes that AH can assist with implantation. From your history, implantation doesn't seem to be the problem... I say, (though I understand your disappointment...) tell yourself to be happy with the higher quality 5 day blasts and don't sweat the AH. We want sticky, quality blasts for the long haul.

So now, relax and grow embies grow! Get sticky for a long ride! Pulling for you from Texas, PJ!

Excellent tranfer all around! The 2 blasts sound like they were ready to snuggle in. Now rest!!

Glad to hear all went so well! And you're welcome...I just couldn't imagine a situation where anyone would be on heparin once weekly, having done the 2/day thing myself and knowing it's about keeping clotting levels consistent!

Interesting thing about the speculum...I have absolutely no memory of a speculum being used, and usually I HATE those things. I didn't get a choice about the catheter/drain; and yup, I was so glad! I only drank about 20 oz (I was supposed to do do 32) and I needed to empty my bladder TWICE before the procedure. LOL.

I'll be thinking of you over the next week!

Hurray- I'm excited for you. So many beautiful blasts, especiallythe two burrowing in and making themselves at home right now. I never had any to freeze, but my clinic stops at day 3, so maybe there were slow-starters that would have been stellar if allowed to grow to day 5. We'll never know, and right now, nearly 18w pregnant, I don't particularly care.
Pamper yourself! Things are looking good, and that was the lucky batch of gonal-F. I'll be sending sticky vibes at you!

Congrats on a fabulous transfer! That's awesome. Well done. :-)

My understanding about assisted hatching is that the embryologist pokes a little hole in the Day 3 embryo's outer shell to assist the embryo in continuing to divide. When eggs come from a more *ahem* mature patient, the outer membranes/shells tend to be tough so the hole assists the embryo in breaking out. I think it's only done at day 3.

I've used two clinics and had one IVF at each. Both performed AH on day 3 even though I had day 5 transfers each time. I think it's standard practice for each clinic when the patient is over 35. Or was it 38 ...?

Oh my gosh I am totally on pins and needles for you. It sounds like everything went really well. I am praying it all continues to go really well. Take really good care of yourself the next couple of days.

Good luck little blasts, I hope at least one of you gets to see mommy in 9 months! Snuggle in, get warm, and be strong!

I will be thinking of all of you.

*hugs*

So happy to hear your transfer went well. I'm actually on the same schedule as you are - went in today for a day 5 transfer. Since this was my first time we just did 1 blast - good quality :)
I hear you on the titled ute.. i have that too.. and it painful! But, today went well for me as well - maybe it was that amazing vallium!!
Keep us updated!!

Damn right you transferred two damn good blasts! Awesome PJ. Now, relax, rest, read good books and watch good movies. I will sheepishly admit that I attribute my pregnancy (ok, somewhat) to Sookie Stackhouse of HBO's TrueBlood. I read 5 of the books while on bedrest and was completely absorbed (trashy vampire fiction no less). As to the Assisted hatching, I had it done with out blasts but I had implantation issues.

I will be stalking you regularly to find out how you're doing.

That sounds like a great transfer! Enjoy the bedrest, you are PUPO!!!! And, I thought lovenox was 1/day, so I'm glad you got that resolved...and I spoke to someone in my due date group yesterday who said that she has MTHFR and didn't start the shots until after her beta...so that's something. You are definitely in time to get this one to stick!

Congrats on the great transfer! I have so much hope for you!!! Enjoy your rest and try to keep those bad thoughts far away.

Sounds like you had a textbook perfect transfer, which is excellent news. Now sit back and relax and take good care of yourself. As far as assisted hatching, I did have it on Day 5 blasts, but I'm sure each RE does things a little differently. No worries :)

Everything sounds so wonderful. I'm wishing you the best of luck.

This is fabulous news! I am glad you checked on the Lovenox. Mine will be once daily when I get to where you're at (which will be in just a couple of weeks! I can't believe it). I am so happy that the transfer went well and that you have two incredible embreyos on board. YAY!!! Enjoy your bedrest!

If you can only have a smidgen of hope, I will have the rest for you and your two little ones.

I feel such relief that you made it to this point and have frozen ones too! How exciting. May this two week wait be your fastest and may you find comfort in the possibility right now.

Thinking of you from bedrest miles apart.

The transfer sounds awesome!!!! I am so glad you followed up with the lovonex.

BTW - good for you getting a catheter - I broke a bedpan once in my zest to empty my bladder.

Io said...

Ha! I just read the comment before me about breaking the bedpan - glad you didn't do that!
I'm glad transfer went well - I hope pregnancy goes even better.

Yay!! So glad to hear it went smooth and wow you've had a great cycle! Have nothing but fluffy happy thoughts for you and I hope the wait goes by fast!!

Look at all these comments! You have so much support!!!!

I will say to you what my favorite nurse said to me after our transfer of two - how pregnant do you want to be????

Lorraine said...

Sounds like a GREAT cycle - sometimes it's just the luck of the draw!

As for the AH, my clinic did it for my day-5 transfer, but I'm not sure when they actually did the procedure. They do it for everyone if there is even the slightest hint of a thicker zona pellucida (the outer shell of the egg). Plus, I was wondering about your lovenox, but I know that my low molecular heparin clears in about twelve hours, so it's twice a day, whereas the lovenox can last for about 4 days, so it's more about what level they are trying to maintain. Good thing you checked it out!

Have a great bedrest and I am so hoping this is it!!!
