I "laid" 16 eggs this morning!
That's right!
IVF#1 - didn't make it to retrieval. Poor response.
IVF#1 Take 2 - didn't make it to retrieval again. Poorer response.
IVF #1 Take 3 - 7 eggs
IVF#2 - 12 eggs
IVF#3 - 16 eggs!
I know that doesn't mean all of them are mature, or will fertilize, OR that we'll have a take-home baby. But hopefully it will give us more options.
Even though I felt like a veteran at this whole thing, I was a little nervous this morning at first. I often get nauseous when I'm nervous.
It was still dark when we got there at 6:45 AM!
The anesthesiologist was hilarious! When I told him that I had something to drink last night (meaning I was trying to hydrate), he asked if I had some whiskey! And then after the retrieval he said that I told him where I'd buried the gold in my backyard while I was out. Love it! He gave me half the dose of anesthesia that I had last time. And sadly, the same TYPE because I told him that I preferred that over whatever I had during the first IVF. My husband says that it's sad that I've been under so much that I can tell them about my drug preferences! Anyway, the anesthesiologist also waited longer to give me the drugs. My first IVF, I was out before I even was wheeled into surgery. Last time, they hit me as soon as I got into the room. This time, I got to experience everyone prepping for it, and the clamp, which always kind of reminds me of a jack to lift a car! And the saline wash...
And then I woke up right away, but I really wanted to curl up and go back to sleep. I was bored waiting for them to finish monitoring me. At my request, the nurse drew bulls eyes on my buttocks for the Progesterone injections. Mr. PJ was actually kind of appreciative about it, which was good. I think because we are doing assisted hatching, I have to take doxycycline and Medrol now.
I'm going to call the nurse about my Lovenox. I'm reading that other people who do this start sometimes on the day of retrieval. The hematologist said to start on transfer day. I want to be sure. I mean, does that stuff work instantaneously, or does it take a while to do it's thing? Let me know if you are taking it, when you are to start (or have started). Thanks!
I'm also going t0 ask if I can do the PIO in the evenings. I hate rushing to take it in the mornings and not being able to sleep in on the weekends because of it.
Am totally going to nap today, catch up on my Tivo, and do some schoolwork. My doggies are glad to have someone home.
I am LOVING the rain, the changing leaves, and the cool weather. It's a good day. :)

Now... deep breaths.
Great ER! Sounds like you are getting better each time, which is great. Rest up, and grow embies grow!
Fabulous news! It's so great to have nice and funny docs - they really make it easier to go through all the crap. :)
Um, where is the gold in your backyard?
Great news about all the eggs. :-D
Great ER! I always think more is better...more to work with, etc. So, 16 sounds great! It actually sounds like a pretty good experience overall. I wish I could remember what I did the one cycle they had me on lovenox...but I'm sure your doc will tell you. Crossing fingers for a great fert report! Relax and enjoy the rest of the day.
Yay for 16 eggs!
The earliest I've ever taken heparin was 2dpo (that was IUI); this time around it was 1 day after transfer.
I have bulls eyes, too!
Yippeee!!!! SO excited to read your excellent egg report. Hoping to get just as good of a fertilization report. Enjoy your take it easy time!
Cluck cluck cluck! You are too funny - I love the chicken analogy! Super ER & hoping for just as good a Fert report... sending mother hen vibes! ;)
Yahoo! Great ER report :)
Nice job on the 16 eggs! :) So glad it was a good day. Enjoy!
Yes! You go, girl! Great job and glad the ER went smoothly.
congratulations!! that's a ton of eggs! cant wait to hear the fert report! surgery i think is always the scariest part...and i get super sick to my stomach too. tmi, but i'm in the bathroom hours before any RE appt :)
have a great day with your tivo and congrats again!!!
Hurray for 16 eggies! Medrol is the most bitter pill in the universe (that I've ever met), so keep something handy that can wipe the taste out of your mouth.
Can't wait to hear the fert report. Rest up. You'll be PUPO soon!
Awesome retreival, PJ! So excited for you=)
Woot woot! Well done!
P.S. I totally hear you on wanting to do the PIO shots in the evening. My guess is that they prefer the morning because it's easier for most people to be consistent with them in the morning. No worries about getting home on time, forgetting after dinner, etc. etc. I've never asked, though, and am definitely interested to hear what your doc says.
Enjoy your day! You've definitely earned it. Looking forward to hearing the fert report.
It's about damn time those ovaries took direction and took it well! Nice! We all know it's quality and not quantity, but I have to think that something is going really right with this cycle to get that kind of response. The third time was the charm for me, by the way...
Good for you! 16 is incredible! Oh, and Lovenox works immediately and peaks in about 3-5 hours (I just had lunch with the rep today), so you don't have to build up for a few days or anything...so excited for you. :-)
Wow! Sixteen is GREAT! Good job, PJ's Ovaries! Way to step up to the plate! I know that it's no guarantee of bringing home a live baby, but it's a step in the right direction, right? Hurdle number 7 down, only 19 more to go... or something like that!
I had a really awesome nurse anesthetist for my procedure. She gave me the "I don't care" drugs right before we walked in the room. I remember seeing my doctor in scrubs and being introduced to the seven people in the room and saying hello to each one, and then putting my legs in the knee-stirrup things, and then, I remember being told that it was time to wake up. She was just really great, talking with me like a normal human and actually listening to my responses, making sure I didn't have any questions at all.
But I totally love doctors that joke. I was undergoing a very intimate exam for some fissures that may have required surgery, and my doctor stepped out in the hallway, and when she came back in with another doctor and an MD student, she said to me loudly, "Hey, Kate! We were just tawlkin' 'bout yer BUTT! HAHAHA." She's the best surgeon ever. Love her. (Still don't want to do the butt surgery unless necessary, but if it ever becomes necessary, I'll be going directly back to her. She's great.)
Yay! I'm just so happy for your results today!
16 eggs!
Woo-hoo!
I'm glad the ER went smoothly.
Sending lots of positive thoughts to you!
WOOHOOO!!! just breathe!
Dude, glad you are a hen and not a rooster...way to lay!
Now tell Auntie Io where the gold is...
WOW! Impressive!!!
Congrats on your big 16. Hope your fertilisation rates are great to.
16 is great! Good luck!
PJ that is awesome! 16 eggs! I will be hoping and praying you have many options from the retreival today, and that it all results in a happy, healthy baby in 9 months. Fingers crossed and big hugs!
Woohoo for 16 eggs - 16!!!!
Fabulous news!
Rock on, you crazy egg laying mama! Brock, Brock, Brock!!!! (that's my version of the chicken.)
hugs, prayers, fertilizer, and whatever else you need, coming your way!!
