FET #1 & questions for those who have done FET

Woohoo! I think a plan might be in motion for an FET, or at least the beginnings of one.

It goes something like, birth control starts with the next period (first week of April), and then lupron...

I am a total dummy again.

Why birth control?

Lupron on vacation. Hmmm... Is that a bad thing? I've never done Lupron before. What are the side effects again? I guess so I don't ovulate early, right? Can I take the Lupron and other drug paraphernalia with me in the carry on, on the plane?

I guess I just assumed we would start all of this after vacation.

Can I drink wine in Napa with Lupron?

How much is Lupron? It's not as expensive as FSH like GonalF, right?

I'm glad that we can move on. I know that one little frozen embryo might not make it through thaw, and then might not implant, and even if it does implant it might not make it, with my luck. But it is nice to have a plan and to move forward. One can only hope.

Ah, a plan. We love a plan! Lots of people have complained about lupron and its side effects (moodiness, etc.), but it never affected me. And the beauty is that it's cheap, cheap, cheap! (Magic words to an infertile!) In fact, my FET was a dream compared to a fresh cycle. You can (and should) take your meds with you in your carryon, but get a note from your doctor, just in case. I never had to use my note and was never called out when I transported syringes, etc. but it's good to be safe. I also did bc pills and lupron; it's just to ensure you're adequately surpressed.

Have a lovely, relaxing vacation. Yes, drink wine, but only the good stuff!

I travelled with lupron, had a note and got tagged for a random baggage check, pat down, the whole nine yards. When they open my bag I blurted out, "There are syringes in there, but I have a note." They didn't care. They didn't even ask to see the note.

I was on lupron over the Christmas holidays so I asked if it was OK to drink. I was told it was OK, but not to overdo it. So I drank, but just a couple drinks.

Lupron didn't bother me too much as far as side effects and it wasn't that expensive either.

I asked if I could have some wine while taking it and in moderation my nurse said it was okay.

I'm glad you have a plan and are underway again.

Enjoy your vacation!

They like to totally suppress your system, thus the bc pills and lupron. The lupron has to be refrigerated. (According to the pharmacy) It is overnighted to you on dry ice and is supposed to be put in the fridge immediately. Incase you are flying, you might want to contact the airline and see how they want to handle that. ? Don't know about drinking with it. My side effects on lupron were irritability & weight gain, mainly. Preparing for my FET was so easy though...way easier than the fresh cycles.

I'm praying this one works girl!!!

I traveled out of the country with my lupron in 2007. I had a note from my doc and had everything in a separate bag in my carryon and even got it out at security. The TSA agents were completely disinterested and it was no big deal.

I turn into a raging bitch on lupron. Headaches, hot flashes, and mood swings. Good thing it is all temporary!

Wishing you the best of luck with your FET!

Traveling these days is so weird, you might as well bring a note just in case. That said, I have traveled with all kinds of syringes, a follistim injector and an epi-pen. Nobody really cared about any of that, but the ice-pack caused all kinds of consternation.

BCP makes me so irritable anyway, I was never sure if the lupron added to it. Maybe the wine will make it all okay...

My Lupron side effects were bitchiness and night sweats - horrible night sweats, but they didn't start right away.

I recently travelled with my whole stash of IVF meds - literally everything for an entire cycle with different sized syringes, some with ice packs, etc. I took along a note from my RE and they never asked for it on either flight. For refrigeration, I used a lunch cooler with some ice packs - again no big deal, but the note also said they were required for the meds. The single Lupron vial is small too so not much to it.

Others have already said it, but it's pretty cheap stuff - around a hundred bucks or so I think.

Have a great vacation and yay for a plan!

Hi PJ, just catching up with your last few posts...

Yay for negative ANA!! Boo for terrible, horrible bad luck, but I can totally sympathise with you there... and now I can say that there is definitely hope for us bad luckers!

And so so happy that you have a plan :) Sending lots of positive vibes and baby dust xx

Lupron!!!!!

It's not so bad. It normally doesn't affect you right away, so you should be fine on your trip. As for traveling with it. I think you might have to have a Doc note. Not sure on that one. The good thing it's not nearly as expense as Gonal. The lupron suppresses the ovaries and the Gonal jacks them up.

The FET was a lot easier for me. The process takes a little longer, but we had great results with it. Our embryos froze and thawed fine. We had 3 out 5 go to full to blastocyst stage. I think the chances are higher for them to take if they can go to a full blastocyst stage. We transferred 2 and refroze the 3rd one.

As for drinking-all things are good in moderation. So enjoy!!!

here from L&F-
I didn't end up using birth control for my FET (was on upped doses of estrogen instead)- but the lupron is WAY more affordable than stims and other than making me feel a bit loopy it was much more gentle. And I totally had a glass of wine leading up to transfer.
Good luck!!

I love that you have a plan! I'm currently on Lupron, and was also on BCPs. My doctor told me the BCPs help any cysts go away. The Lupron hasn't been too bad, my main side effect is night sweats, but only after 4 or 5 nights of shots. I think the two-week dose was around $125 online.

As for the wine, my nurses said the same thing about moderation. I tried to take it pretty easy, with sips and by-the-glass so I didn't ever feel tipsy. I can't wait to hear about the trip, and of course, sending lots of luck for the FET!

I'm probably the rare person who had to buy brand Lupron at something like $500 a pop. I didn't have to refrigerate it though, and only needed one vial. One side effect that I didn't like is that it made me angry all the time. I also was instructed not to drink during my FET cycle. I guess it all depends on what your doctor recommends.
