Seriously, the standards include my students understanding the concepts of: precipitation, condensation, evaporation, weathering, erosion, weather vane, blizzard, tornado, hurricane, drought, and flood. Kind of crazy? Yep.
So we missed three days of school, and I rescheduled my appointment for today.
I was mildly annoyed by Obama's comments about the DC schools being closed. Those rural county roads do not get cleared well, and people down here just don't have the experience with snow/ice that midwesterners do. Luckily, I think Obama is otherwise brilliant. :)
The best thing to come out of my appointment is that Dr. Wonderful does NOT think that our prognosis is dim. He said that it is good that I was able to conceive, twice. We just have to figure out how to keep me pregnant.
He did not do an ultrasound today, which sort of surprised me but I was OK with that, being I didn't really want to be probed.
He did get a blood HCG test. I had to go to the lab across the street because my new insurance ANTHEM HEALTHKEEPERS SUCKS!!! I will have to go there from now on, unless it's IVF related. Oh, and I've had to pay a copay and stuff for the last three appointments because the diagnosis is Missed Abor.tion. Yep, the lab slip said I was a Habitual Abor.ter. Should I put that on my resume? I'm so NOT proud.
The RE said that I could still have HCG in my system, and that it sometimes takes a long time for it to clear out. Nice.
He went through all of the tests that I'm going to get, which can happen any time AFTER my HCG is back to zero. There are 15 tests. I wonder if they can get that with one vial of blood, or will they need multiples?
Here are the anal tidbits:
- They aren't going to test Luteal Phase Defect because that's a non-issue with IVF.
- I don't have any uterine abnormalities, because they already did a hysteroscopy and removed the one oddity that I had - a polyp.
- They won't do the chromosome imbalance test YET becaue insurance won't cover it until I have three losses. Please God, let me not get there!!!
- They don't really think it's bacterial. I had that Ci.pro and that should have knocked any of that out.
- So they ARE testing for APA, Lupus, blood clotting disorders, diabetes, and thyroid. I don't get why they are doing the thyroid, because they already know I'm hypothyroid and have it under control with synthetic hormones.
The RE said that there's a very good chance they will find nothing, but that it's good to rule out any of these, since we are doing IVF and all. My insurance cover it all, thank goodness!
My new thinking is to wait to try again until after spring break in April. So a late April, early May FET? The RE seems pretty optimistic about that one frozen embryo. It seems like a nice baby step to me. And that seems like a nice amount of "break" time from infertility treatments too.
Every year we usually spend our tax refund on a vacation. The tradition has been Ft. Lauderdale, but I've been researching other places and am thinking about San Francisco or Santa Fe. Let me know where your favorite vacation spot is. We're going in April and will have probably five or six days. It'll be good to get away before another cycle.

Hi PJ. I am going to vote for multiple vials. When I got my regular CBC and clotting disorder panel done in the hospital it was 13 vials total. Luckily for me when they pulled it I was half asleep. Hmm... FL always sounds good to me and I have never been out west. Have you done any gulf coast of FL? I liked Naples a lot.
I'm glad they are trying to cover their bases with all the testing. It can't hurt to find out more. The multiple vials of blood might hurt more. :)
A FET sounds like a good next step. And hey, spring is a great time for a teacher to conceive. . .
A vacation sounds perfect. I've been wanting to get away myself. If you come to SF you will be in my neck of the woods! But that would be selfish of me. I think somewhere warmer might be better. SF is always so windy and cold. Have you ever been though?
I know you'll be happy anywhere you pick.
Good luck with all your testing. I can pretty much guarantee it will be multiple vials of blood, I have had pretty much that exact screening, plus chromosome studies.
I have a slightly high ANA (anti-nuclear antibody) which usually means nothing in normal people, but can cause pregnancy losses, so I have to take anticoagulants whenever I get pregnant. Maybe it will be something simple like that for you too? Fingers crossed xx
San Fran would be nice. You could do a Napa Valley tour if you like wine tasting.
Yep, the ANA was all they found. Everything else was normal... had mixed feelings about that initially, wasn't sure if I wanted "normal" or "fixable." So this time around when I get pregnant, I have to take a low dose of aspirin. And if that miscarries, then try heparin injections next time.
And PLEASE don't be sorry about not being around, you have to look after yourself, you have to be number one!! (That is my new years resolution!)
Lots of vials...but it sounds like progress.
Also, I loved San Francisco - I went about 10 -omg I cannot believe it was that long ago - it was incredible. Santa Cruz is beautiful too and way less crowded.
I think we are going to put our tax return into a baby fund since our insurance is almost out.
Hey you can come here and vacation down under! My favorite vacation spot is New Zealand! But you'd probably need a few years worth of tax returns just for the airfare!! :) I've only been there once to ski, but luckily it's only a couple of hours flight away from here.
San Fransico sounds great - I'd love to go there!
I'm glad your Doctor is being thorough with your tests!
((hugs))
I'm glad that your doctors are feeling optimistic (or at least, not pessimistic). It probably will be a vial for each test, but this year I had to do twelve and it wasn't bad at all.
I'm biased, but come to San Francisco! I can give you a ton of recommendations for the city, Wine Country, the beaches, everything! Email me if you want. Although yes, SF will be chilly in the summer, but the inland surrounding areas are beautiful and warm.
A vacation is a wonderful idea. Take care of you!
Mmmm - vacation! Sounds like the best thing just to get away, maybe it doesn't even matter where...
I would go somewhere warm and relaxing to get away from all that precipitation. (I remember when my daughter was studying the water cycle - there happened to be a whole riff on it in one of the Lemony Snicket books, so she was actually thrilled about it all.) But I have to say, SF has great restaurants and all those hills to walk your meals off... It may be chilly, but it's worth it!
San Francisco or Santa Fe are both great choices for a little break, although I've never been to Santa Fe. But it's awesome, right? How could it not be? Whichever one you pick, I hope it is the perfect combination of rest, pleasure, and adventure.
Thinking of you lots, and wishing you quick and easily solvable answers with the testing.
I'm glad they are going to do testing. Hopefully they will find something easily fixed. I almost feel better when they do find something wrong, then at least you can DO something about it.
I LOVE SF. I've only been there once, but I would have moved there in a minute. But, I've never been to Santa Fe, so that sounds fun too!
Thinking about you. Hoping that HCG makes a quick drop so you can get some answers.
I'm glad you are get all these tests even if they don't show anything. It's good to know.
I also think it's a good idea to take a break for a few months. Let the HCG clear out. Let your head clear out.
AND....if you come to San Francisco...I live in the Bay Area. We could meet! Would love to take you out for a drink.
Not to sound like I'm trying to confuse you or anything but I have been to Santa Fe and it's an amazing place to visit. Either way you go you can't go wrong.
I think San Francisco would be a high paced type trip (Big City, hip restaurants, driving up to wine country)where Santa Fe is more relaxing. But it does have a nightlife and spas and it's beautiful country. Stunning and soul filling. Depends on what you are in the mood for.
Testing is good. I am glad that your prognosis isn't dim.
I hope your HCG comes down quickly. (Mine came back down pretty fast)
I think a vacations sounds wonderful-you deserve it. Time to reboot.
(HUGS)
Great plan of action PJ!
I have to put my bid in for your vacation:)
I definitely SF should win out- I've been there twice. There's plenty to see and do in the city for a few days, then you could drive to Napa Valley (wineries) or Carmel (never been, but heard it's beautiful). Also, across the GG Bridge is Sausalito, which is nice for shopping/dinner. It's a great place to get away for a while!
Glad to see you're doing better. It's a tough road to recovery, but you're getting there. I'll check back soon!
