CD 6/Stim day 3: Shooting Up for the Family

To clarify, it's actually stim day 4, but I've only done three injections. This evening will be my 4th injection.

Wednesday evening my mother in-law and sister in-law watched me mix my meds. I typically mix my meds in the best, well-let place in the house which is my coffee table where I can spread everything out, all anal-like. Seriously, I have a special order in which I do things, and a special place for everything. Because mixing hundreds of dollars worth of meds and getting it right, is kind of an important thing. don'tcha think? I didn't do the injections in front of them though. It's not that I'd mind jabbing myself in front of others, it's the whole pulling up my shirt and pinching a wad of fat by my belly button that seems like a private kind of thing! At least for me, anyway.

Thursday my parents got watch as well. Let me rewind and say that Thanksgiving was at my house this year, and having six people to feed is WAY out of my norm. Normally, we enjoy cooking but we MUCH rather like having someone else cook. I was in charge of the turkey, the cranberry jezebel sauce, and last weekend I made a pumpkin ice cream pie. I did Alton Brown's turkey, from the Good Eats show on the Food Network, because I didn't have a clue how to do the turkey. The process required soaking said turkey in a brine, filling the cavity with aromatics, and cooking for what Alton said would be 2-2 1/2 hours. Well, the turkey was sumptuous and very juicy (flavor all throughout) and I highly recommend it, BUT it did take an hour and half longer than it was supposed to. So we ended up eating Thanksgiving DINNER at around 6:30 in the evening. Good thing we had munchies to eat all day. Anyway, I mixed the meds again on Thursday evening in front of my dad and mom. I didn't get much of a reaction, except for them asking how much the stuff costs.

This morning I went to my first monitoring appointment. I have about 20 follicles, but only two that are above 10mm. My problem always is, as you may recall, recruiting enough follicles to grow to maturity. So while I'm thrilled with the 20, I'll feel better when I see at least four of them get on the bandwagon and grow to 16-18mm. I am reminded that this is a step by step process that can end at any point in the game, and to find that balance between not being too happy for small victories, yet still being thankful for them. Ya' know?

I'm continuing with my executive decision to wear cute socks while in the stirrups. Here are today's socks.

I think even if they don't say it, it is a bit eye-opening for others to see all the meds laid out like that.

Glad the turkey turned out good!

Hoping you've got some dark horse follies that catch up to the leaders in time.

Wishing you all the best. Sending good follicle vibes your way!

All I got was the follistim pen. Your way sounds way more fun. Reconstituting meds always makes me feel like a mad scientist.

Brining the turkey is the best. I brine ours every year! Good luck on the stims!

Oh yes, I take mixing hundreds of dollars worth of meds at a time very seriously. That's nice that your family took an interest in what you are going through (even if it is monetarily).

Wow, 20 follicles! Now they just all need to grow at the same time. Why does that seem to be so hard for some of us? With all those contenders, I'm sure some more will catch up. Good luck!
I'll be thinking of you.

And, cute socks!

Those socks are really cute! i love them. Great idea on wearing cute socks for your appointments. :)
I also think it's way too intimate to stick myself in front of others. tonight will be my third day on stims, and I decided I need my husband to cuddle me afterwards, but I don't let him watch me injecting.

I like to wear cute socks for the stirrups too! I'm happy to hear about the good follicle news so far! And YAY for a scrumptous turkey!

Thanks for the comments! I was showing my mother in law my bruises from all my shots and she had no idea that we do them in my tummy - if you aren't living it you have no idea - it was good for your fam to get to see some of it!

I'm glad you were able to give your family some idea of what this is like. Even if they didn't have a big reaction in front of you, I'm sure it had an impact.

When I showed one of my coworkers my belly bruises and told her that my husband gives all the shots, she was shocked. She couldn't wrap her head around being able to just do this stuff at home without "real" medical backgrounds. LOL.

I'm glad you are having some great response and hope each injection brings only good things for your growing brood. (;

Happy Thanksgiving, PJ! I'm loving your yummy recipes, shall try Cranberry Jezebel Sauce for Christmas.
Great socks, hoping to see your "next appointment" pair :-0
All my best wishes on follicle growing (20 is a very good number)

Mmmm - can't go wrong with Good Eats! And any turkey can take hours longer than it's "supposed to" - we routinely add an hour to our cooking time because it's never ready when it should be. (Not sure what we'll do if it's ever done early...)

Mix those medications with lots of good wishes from me - some of those twenty just have to do the right thing!

Go follies! Grow grow grow!

Now when can I come over and eat pumpkin ice cream?

I'm glad your family got to see a little bit of what you're going through. Usually, it takes the visuals for people to truly get how complicated this mess is.

Very cozy socks!
